Viet Nam's red-hot seafood industry was again setting records for all the right reasons as the nation’s seafood export turnover for the first five months of the year was estimated to come in at 320 million USD.
Total five-month export revenues also accounted for more than 1.3 billion USD, a 21.87 percent increase year on year, said the Ministry of Fisheries.
Market observers pointed to an increase in orders of frozen fish, cuttlefish and dried fish to France, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan and Australia as primary reasons for the spike in turnover. In an effort to ensure the country's brand recognition, the Fisheries Ministry asked the National Fisheries Quality Assurance and Veterinary Directorate (Nafiqaved) to increase inspections of chemical residues in seafood, particularly those exported to Russia, Australia and Japan.
